1. ‎What is an elder? 

"A spiritually mature man as is qualified by Scripture, who is knowledgeable in the Scriptures, and is officially recognized by the local church to work with other elders in exercising oversight and shepherding God's flock."

Elders/Overseers/Pastors/Leaders are interchangeable terms. Each term emphasizes different aspects of the same leadership responsibility.

3. It may be Biblical, but is it Baptist?

Yes, elders have been recognized as a Biblical office in historic Baptist confessions and Baptist History.

4. Why should this matter to us?

The church matters to God, so much so that the church was purchased with the blood of Christ. Therefore, Biblical Church Leadership should matter to us.
